Furlough Middle School students win Innovative Engineer’s Award at robotics competition

TERRELL, Texas — Four Furlough Middle School students won the Innovative Engineer’s Award at a recent robotics competition in Rockwall.

TERRELL, Texas — Four Furlough Middle School students won the Innovative Engineer’s Award at a recent robotics competition in Rockwall.

The VEX Robotics competition was held at Rockwall-Heath High School on December 17, 2016.

“Students were judged by their creativity and design of their robots and our student's design was the most innovative and unique,” Furlough Middle School Principal Jay Thompson tells inForney.com.

The Innovative Engineer’s Award was presented to 8th grade students 13-year-old Oscar Arias, 14-year-old Fabian Maldonado, 14-year-old Trujillo Montelongo, and 14-year-old Oscar Garcia.

The students are now preparing for their next robotics competition, under the direction of STEM teacher and robotics sponsor Shellie Massengale, which will be held on January 14, 2017, at Terrell High School from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
