North Forney FFA students take top awards at 2015 State Fair of Texas

FORNEY, Texas β€” Several North Forney High School Future FFA Chapter members took home top awards from their participation at the 2015 State Fair of Texas.

FORNEY, Texas β€” Several North Forney High School Future FFA Chapter members took home top awards from their participation at the 2015 State Fair of Texas.

Competing from North Forney High School (NFHS) were Michael Deckshot, Ashton Hedges, Marci Grubaugh, Marilyn Grubaugh, and Kennedy Searles.

β€œEach of these students worked over several months in feeding, raising, and working with their project animals,” stated NFHS agriculture teacher Justin Reyes. β€œThe State Fair of Texas celebrates all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment.”

Hedges exhibited a Zebu Steer, Travis, and was awarded the 2015 State Fair of Texas Grand Champion Zebu Steer and also the 2015 AMZA Zebu Club Grand Champion.

Deckshot placed 12th in the Lightweight Division for the All Other Breeds (AOB) Class with his Market Steer, Stormy.

Marci Grubaugh exhibited a Brangus heifer, Sweeney, in the breeding show and placed 1st in her class and 3rd overall in the Senior Yearling Heifer division.

Marilyn Grubaugh also exhibited a Brangus heifer, Sunny, in the breeding show and took 3rd place in her class and 5th overall in the Senior Heifer Calf Division.
