ROCKWALL, Texas — The Rockwall Independent School District will host a re-zoning meeting on Thursday, November 17, 2016, for their newest elementary school, known as Elementary School 14, being built just north of the Kaufman-Rockwall County line.
The elementary school will likely service, among others in Rockwall County, some Kaufman County residents just outside of the Forney Independent School District in Travis Ranch, Lakeside at Heath, and surrounding areas. Those areas are currently served by Amy Parks Elementary School in Heath, Texas.
The district’s demographer has been charged with formulating two attendance zone options which will be discussed during the Nov. 17 meeting at the Rockwall-Heath Performing Arts Center from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The options will be presented to the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees in December 2016.
Rockwall ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, and is expected to be complete by fall 2017, weather permitting.
At full buildout, Travis Ranch is expected to have 562 homes within Rockwall ISD — 188 of which are already built and occupied. Lakeside at Heath is expected to build 446 total homes. At the time of the demographers study, one home was already occupied, 14 were under construction, and 30 homes were expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
“Elementary School 14 is a facility design of spaces and classrooms in a proven arrangement utilizing natural light, durable materials and vibrant colors to inspire learning. The facility is approximately 92,000 square feet,” according to Rockwall ISD.
“It is with great pride that we celebrate today’s groundbreaking ceremony for our school district and community but most importantly for the children who will soon walk its halls,” Rockwall ISD Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal stated during the groundbreaking ceremony.
