KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Kaufman County-area school districts are making school safety a top priority with the commencement of the 2018-19 school year.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Kaufman County-area school districts are making school safety a top priority with the commencement of the 2018-19 school year.

Several districts have met with area law enforcement agencies in preparation for the school year to discuss safety measures, new protocols, procedures, and, in the case of the Crandall Independent School District (ISD), have conducted an active shooter simulation.

"Crandall ISD’s primary focus is on the safety and security of our students," read a statement from Crandall ISD. "In light of the school shootings that we are seeing across the nation, Crandall ISD, in an abundance of caution, has decided to conduct an Active Shooter simulation..."

That simulation was conducted on August 17, 2018, at Crandall High School in partnership with several area law enforcement agencies and the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management.

Forney ISD recently hosted several local and surrounding fire, police, and emergency organizations to discuss safety items across the district, the district stated in a Thursday press release.

"The organizations met to review and collaborate on the District's new emergency procedures and on the best practices of safety procedures for the students and staff of Forney ISD," stated the district.

Among the organizations that met with the district include the Kaufman County Sheriff's Department, the District's School Resource Officers, the Forney Police Department, the Forney Fire Department, and the Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable's Office.

"The organizations plan to meet throughout the school year to continue to discuss safety practices and procedures," read a statement from the district.
