FORNEY, Texas – The dedication ceremony of the Susan K. Nelson Library at Criswell Elementary has been scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 7 p.m.

The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to approve the naming of the Criswell Elementary School library to the Susan K. Nelson Library at their April board meeting. β€œNelson was a longtime Forney ISD and Criswell Elementary School librarian who recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer,” according to Forney ISD Director of Communications Larry Coker.

Nelson began her career at Forney ISD in 1992 and over the course of more than 20 years of service to the district helped open seven district elementary libraries. Nelson was named the Criswell Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 2002, became the Forney ISD Elementary Library Director in 2004, and helped establish the Forney Public Library in 1991 with her involvement in the Forney Women's Organization.

The Forney Public Library, then located at 113 East Main Street, later merged with the Forney High School Library and became the Ellen Brooks West Memorial Library.

The Criswell Elementary School is located at 401 North Farm-to-Market 740, Forney, Texas, 75126.
