TERRELL, Texas — The Friends of Texas Public Schools has named Dr. Georgeanne Warnock, superintendent of Terrell ISD, as one of the 2023 Ambassadors of the Year.
The announcement was made and the honorees will be recognized at the organization's 19th annual awards dinner held at the Baylor Club, McLane Stadium on Wednesday, November 8.
The Friends of Texas Public Schools is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering appreciation for the value of public education in Texas. This year, the organization recognized three superintendents for their exceptional contributions: Dr. Bobby Ott of Temple ISD, Dr. Georgeanne Warnock of Terrell ISD, and Mr. Kevin Worthy of Royse City ISD.
The Ambassador of the Year award is designed to highlight educators who have made significant efforts to improve public perception of their schools.
Warnock emphasized the role of educators as advocates for students.
"As educators, we are called to be a voice for the voiceless, a champion for those in need, and a servant before a leader. I am proud to help shine a light on the great things happening in public education every single day and to boldly stand up for the 5.5 million children in Texas public schools who are counting on all of us to get it right," she said.
Scott Milder, founder of Friends of Texas Public Schools, expressed gratitude for their leadership. "Educators across the entire state are indebted to the heroic efforts of state representatives Abel Herrero and Ernest Bailes and the majority of the members of the Texas House of Representatives who stood firm against the gaming and politicization of our Texas public schools during the multiple legislative sessions this year," Milder said. "We are grateful for their rational leadership from both sides of the aisle."
