POST OAK BEND, Texas — One person was killed and eight others were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Farm-to-Market (FM) 987 on Friday night.
The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of FM 987 in between Post Oak Bend and Kaufman, Texas — north of South Bend Drive.
"Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Sheryl Clark, 45 of Kaufman was traveling southbound on FM 987 towards Kaufman," Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford told inForney.com. "For a as of yet to be determined reason the driver crossed over the center stripe after entering a curve and struck a 2005 GMC Envoy which was traveling northbound."
The GMC Envoy, driven by a 50-year-old Kaufman, Texas, resident, and four other occupants, including a child, became disabled in the northbound lane and was struck by a 2018 Jeep Latitude driven by a 22-year-old Kaufman resident.
The Jeep was also occupied by another 22-year-old Kaufman resident and a 10-month-old child.
According to Bradford, the impact sent the Envoy into the east bar ditch and 22-year-old Jesus Daniel Espinoza of Kaufman, Texas, was ejected from the vehicle. Espinoza was not wearing a seat belt and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Clark was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in critical condition. The driver of the Envoy was airlifted to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
"All other parties were transported to Baylor University Medical Center- Dallas with non life-threatening injuries," stated Bradford.
