As promised, this year's Independence Day Celebration at the Forney Community Park was bigger and better than ever. An estimated 14,000 people came out to the park on Saturday, June 30th to enjoy an evening of games, food, entertainment, and one terrific fireworks show.

The event officially started at 6 p.m. but many decided to show up earlier and claim a prime seat for the fireworks. The temperature at the start of the celebration was about 95 degrees, but the nice breeze and friendly atmosphere negated any worries about heat. Forney Mayor Darren Rozell told inForney.com, “It was a great night, comfortable weather, and everyone that came out to the park had a good time.” He thanked the Parks Department for the outstanding job they did in organizing the event and said, “It allows our growing community to still experience a small town feel. I'm already looking forward to the Independence Day Celebration in 2013!”

Despite the high number of attendees, the park never felt crowded and there were plenty of good parking spaces for the crowd. Even the long lines of people eager to try out the wonderful vendor food, seemed to move at a fast pace. The Forney Lions Club had enough bottled water at their tent to keep the crowd hydrated, and they only charged 50 cents for each bottle. All the proceeds raised by the Lions Club will be going to support local charities and provide scholarships to Forney kids.

Not everyone attending the fireworks show was from the Forney area. Florida residents Karl and Ann Kaniss were in town to visit friends and were thrilled to take in the Saturday night festivities at the park. Ann Kannis said, “We had a fantastic time. The people are friendly, the park is beautiful, and the fireworks show was spectacular!” Judging by the open gaped mouths and the “oohs and ahhs” of the crowd during the 20 minute firework display, the show was a hit. The impressive show felt like you were watching them in 3D, without the hassle of needing 3D glasses. If you missed the show this year, mark it on your calendar for next year.

**Remember, other than the Independence Day Celebration, shooting off fireworks is not allowed within Forney city limits.**
