Forney residents packed Main Street to pay tribute on Veterans Day during the Turkey Trax Auto Show on November 11, 2012. The cold and rainy weather didn't stop those willing to “suck it up”, as council member Ray Stephens would say, from sacrificing a little for those that sacrifice it all.

Ray Stephens is the newest council member to join the Forney City Council in Place 2 and has been a strong advocator for doing more to recognize our veterans and service members in Forney. Ray Stephens is also a retired United States Marine and is now an Adjutant Professor of Emergency and Disaster Management and Homeland Security for Trinity Valley Community College and Central Texas College.
The FISD Air Force JROTC Color Guard presented and posted the colors to start the ceremony. The Forney High School Chamber Choir sung the National Anthem that was followed by the pledge of allegiance lead by Greyson Burrus.
Mayor Darren Rozell read the City of Forney's official proclamation for Veterans Day. Cadet Captain Robert Kellik and former County Judge Wayne Gent were guest speakers for the ceremony. Both guests speakers talked about the meaning of Veterans Day and what it means to them. After the ceremony the North Forney High School culinary arts students graciously provided refreshments to the veterans.
Kayla Bryson, the Executive Assistant at Forney's Economic Development Corporation, helped organize and collaborate the Veterans Day ceremony with the annual Turkey Trax Auto show. Bryson said, “The first annual Veterans Day Ceremony was a great success, despite the weather conditions. The AFJROTC did an amazing job posting the colors, and the FHS choir blew the crowd away with the singing of the National Anthem. We are excited to continue this new tradition and look forward to working collaboratively with the schools again to make it bigger and better next year. We are forever indebted to our veterans, and we want to make sure they know how thankful we are for them.”
