Forney, TX - the Architectural Review Board (ARB) will hold a public hearing regarding a request for a certificate of appropriateness for significant exterior changes to the Firehouse Church located at 413 S. Bois d’Arc Street/107 E. Brooks Street. The proposal comes from Senior Pastor Stephen McKay and aims to enhance the church's exterior while adhering to the Historic Overlay Zone district regulations.
The proposed modifications include:
- Installation of a new wall sign on the front façade, featuring a matte black steel plate backdrop measuring 1' 6" tall and 12' 6" wide, with brass lettering that is 8” tall.
- Replacement of the existing exterior doors on the side façade with Masonite matte black, flush solid wooden doors, maintaining the same dimensions as the current doors.
- Replacement of the cracked and damaged concrete sidewalk near the front entrance, which does not require Board approval.
- Replacement of the existing shingle roof with a matte black 24-gauge metal roof.
The ARB will evaluate the requests based on the guidelines set forth in the Historic Overlay Zone district regulations. According to Section 34e10.A(4), the Board will consider whether the proposed changes adversely affect any historical, architectural, archaeological, or cultural features of the building or the future preservation of the district.
Furthermore, the guidelines in Section 34e10.A(7) emphasize the importance of the design, arrangement, texture, material, color, and fenestration of the proposed changes in relation to similar buildings in the vicinity. Specific recommendations also highlight the necessity to maintain the historic relationship between the church and its surrounding landscape features.
Members of the community are encouraged to attend the public hearing to express their opinions and feedback regarding the proposed changes. This is an opportunity for residents to engage in the preservation and enhancement of their local historic sites.
Documentation regarding the proposed changes, including site photos and plans, will be available for review during the meeting.
