Just before midnight on Friday, TPWD spokesperson Steve Lightfoot told inForney.com game wardens were called to the Cedar Creek Reservoir in the area of the State Highway 198 bridge which crosses the eastern portion of the lake in between Gun Barrel City and Payne Springs.

Lightfoot says a boat, operated by 56-year-old Larry Scala of Arlington, Texas, struck the SH 198 bridge. Two of the boat’s occupants, 64-year-old Daniel Mohorc and 44-year-old Anthony Henegar, both of Arlington, Texas, were critically injured and flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.

A short time later, Mohorc died as a result of his injuries, according to Lightfoot. As of last check on Monday, Henegar remained in critical condition.

Scala was arrested on suspicion of boating while intoxicated. A blood draw was conducted and Lightfoot says investigators are awaiting its results.

Lightfoot says a TPWD STORM Team is reconstructing the accident scene and the case remains an ongoing investigation. Its unknown if Scale will face additional charges.

Scala was transported to the Henderson County Jail where he posted a $5,000 bond and was released.
