The 2012 “Spirit of Christmas” Food Drive marks the 31st anniversary of the food drive that is a partnership between Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, many different service groups, and local food pantries. The food drive collected more than 19,000 boxes of nonperishable food for families throughout the Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana regions.
In Forney, Brookshire's partnered with the Lions Club and the Forney Food Pantry to help collect and distribute the food. All the food collected in Forney stays in the Forney community, according to a Brookshire's representative.
“This is our largest annual service project, and we work with a great group of organizations to help neighbors in need,” said Brookshire Grocery Co. President and CEO Rick Rayford. “Each year our store teams do a terrific job of promoting the effort and following through to make the food drive a success in their communities.”
Brookshire's Grocery Co. estimates that nearly 500,000 pounds of food was donated this year for the “Spirit of Christmas” Food Drive.
