The Forney Light Show is a tradition that the community has come to embrace. How can you not love the effort that one family makes to put up thousands of Christmas lights to make people smile? Chris and Camber Mathis have once again turned their home at 247 Graham in the Fox Hollow subdivision, to a wonderful display of the Christmas spirit.
The Mathis family are grateful to their neighbors for not only tolerating the increased traffic caused by the display, but for the many houses that have also decorated this year, which adds to the onlookers experience. Though they usually start putting up decorations on November 1st in order to open on Thanksgiving, a little bundle of joy pushed that back a bit this year. The display is up and running now and will continue to do so through the first weekend of January.
Camber says that they are currently running 65,000 lights on their house and yard and that 75 percent of those are now LED lights, which helps reduce the electric bill. In fact Camber added, “In our previous years, our electricity bill only goes up about $40. The lights are not constantly on, so our meter doesn't spin like crazy!” All the lights and displays are computer controlled, and there is about a mile and a half of extension cords in the Mathis' yard. When you arrive for the show, which starts every half hour, you simply turn your car radio to FM 87.9 and you can hear the Christmas songs and messages.
As they do each year, the Mathis family has a donation can to collect canned and non-perishable food items for the Forney Food Pantry. The Preston family visited the light show on December 7 and had their two young daughters take canned goods to donate. They felt it would teach them about helping those less fortunate than themselves. They really appreciated the special display the Mathis' put up, that pays tribute to the American Armed Forces members.
Camber and Chris issued this written statement to inForney.com, “We love that our community appreciates our labor of love, and we appreciate the others behind the scenes that help make it possible. It's amazing how a little music and small flickers of lights can make so many smiles.”
The Forney Light Show runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday the show runs from 6:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance on the next two weekends, and visitors are not only allowed, but are encouraged to take pictures with “the jolly couple” adds Camber Mathis.
