Roads & Infrastructure | $52.7 Million Investment
The city of Forney is taking significant steps to improve its road infrastructure following a successful vote by residents in the November 2022 election. Voters approved Proposition E, which allocates $52.7 million to enhance roads and infrastructure throughout the city. In a recent development, the city’s engineering department has published a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to find engineering firms that will provide their expertise for these upcoming projects.
What is an RFQ?
An RFQ, or Request for Qualifications, is a formal process cities use to invite engineering and construction firms to submit their qualifications to work on specific projects. This allows the city to assess which firms have the necessary experience and skills to complete the work effectively. By seeking qualified professionals, Forney aims to ensure that the expansion projects are completed to a high standard.
What’s Included in the Road Expansion?
The approved funding will support several key roadway projects aimed at relieving traffic congestion and improving safety. These projects include:
1. Lovers Lane Expansion: This will help accommodate an increasing volume of traffic along this busy corridor.
2. Connection Between FM 548 and Monitor Boulevard: This new link will create better access and flow between major roads, making it easier for residents to navigate the area.
3. Extension of Community Park Road: This extension is designed to improve access to local parks and recreational areas, enhancing the community's quality of life.
4. Union Pacific Grade Separation Study: A critical aspect of the project is a study to explore the feasibility of building a bridge over the railroad tracks to improve traffic flow and public safety.
Why is a New Bridge Important?
As Forney continues to grow, the need for a new bridge over the railroad tracks has become increasingly important. The city has conducted a recent study with Union Pacific and identified five potential locations for this bridge. These options are strategically placed to ensure they will effectively alleviate traffic issues while enhancing safety for both drivers and pedestrians. The proposed locations include options at Far West, Pinson Avenue, Oak Street, Chestnut Street, and Far East.
What’s Next?
With the RFQ published, the city is now in the process of reviewing submissions from engineering firms. Once a firm is selected, detailed planning and design work will begin, followed by construction. The city promises to keep residents informed throughout this process, providing updates as the projects progress.
Forney residents can look forward to improved roadways and infrastructure that will not only ease traffic congestion but also enhance safety and accessibility in their community. Stay tuned for more information as these exciting projects move forward!
