FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney is seeking volunteers to serve on a planning committee for the recently acquired 16-acre Pinson Farm.

The Forney Parks and Recreation Board will consider volunteers for three open positions on the committee during their October 18 meeting.

Earlier this year, the City of Forney signed a $460,000 purchase agreement, to be owner financed over nine years, for 16.26 acres at 900 North Pinson Road, known as the Pinson Farm. The farm was recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Family Land Heritage Program in 1991 for the farm’s continual agricultural operation by the Pinson family for more than 100 years.

Although the parks name is decided, The Pinson Farm Heritage Park, the committee will be tasked with planning a future park site on the property. According to the purchase agreement, the property is to be used for a family-oriented city park and may include, among other things, picnic areas, playground equipment, biking and/or walking trails, sports and recreational fields, and tennis courts.

The City of Forney will maintain the existing buildings on the property unless they are deemed a danger to the public, according to the purchase agreement.

Examples of the park’s future design include the City of Mesquite’s Westlake Park and historic Westlake House and the City of Dallas’ Samuell Farms, which is also located in Mesquite.

Those interested in serving on the committee should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (972) 564-7326.
