City of Forney to continue spraying for mosquitoes, July 10-12

FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney will continue spraying for mosquitoes Sunday night through Tuesday night.

FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney will continue spraying for mosquitoes Sunday night through Tuesday night.

The spraying, or fogging, will be conducted between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. between Sunday, July 10, 2016, and Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

“The water soluble spray that the City will be using to fog for mosquitoes will not harm animals under normal conditions,” according to the City of Forney.

The city says residents should take the following precautions: bring in pet dishes or cover them; bring your pets inside for the night; cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths; do not go outside during spray time; keep windows and doors closed during spraying; and if you have health problems, such as asthma, take special precautions as directed by your doctor, if necessary.

The first West Nile virus was reported in May in El Paso County, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). “In 2015, West Nile caused 275 reported cases of illness in the state, including 16 deaths,” states the DSHS’s website.

In recent weeks, test pools in Seagoville and Heath have returned positive results for West Nile. Those municipalities reported spraying or fogging the affected ares after receiving test results.

New to North Texas, state health officials have reported 55 cases of Zika virus.

“Of those, 54 were in travelers who were infected abroad and diagnosed after they returned home; two of those travelers were pregnant women,” stated the DSHS. One person contracted the disease after sexual contact with an infected individual while traveling abroad.

Neighboring Dallas County has reported 12 cases of Zika virus.
