The Hole Thing donut owner Katie Vrana posted on Facebook about the Forney Food Pantry needing food on Tuesday afternoon. “Help us help them, please!” she said.

Less than 12 hours later, the Forney Food Pantry was open on their only day of the week and people were already lining up to donate. “Individuals were lined up early this morning with bags of food and continued throughout the rest of the day,” said Forney Food Pantry Director Taressa Adams.

Less than 24 hours later, community leaders and business owners joined the efforts.

The Forney Youth Baseball Association (FYBA) announced they would hold a canned food drive this Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Mulberry Park from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The FYBA will be accepting donations at both concessions stands at the park. The easiest stand to drop off will be the concession stand that is accessible from the Johnson Elementary School parking lot. Volunteers will deliver the donated items to the food pantry on Saturday and help stack it on the shelves.

The Forney ISD notified inForney.com they would be holding their Unity Bowl food drive again this year. “We will start the drive on Monday, October 21 and it will run through Friday, October 25,” said FISD Director of Communications Larry Coker. The Air Force Junior ROTC will pick up the donations from around the district on Friday before the Unity Bowl game and deliver it all to the shelter.

After this morning, Adams said, “It means a lot, even just a small stack of groceries.” However, the need for non-perishable goods at the Forney Food Pantry is a continual need and it doesn't stop here. Heading into the holiday season, the Forney Food Pantry will need approximately 400 turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. The turkeys are purchased with monetary donations the food pantry recieves.

The Hole Thing and City Bank have offered to be drop-off locations for the food pantry. The Forney Food Pantry does have a covered drop box in front of their building at 222 Industrial but the additional drop-off locations will add a layer of convenience. Groovy's will also be accepting donations until the end of their business day on Saturday.

FYBA PR Director Cheryl Mason said, “In the 10 years I have lived in Forney, I have seen our community come together as a 'family' on numerous occasions. Simply put, we take care of one another in times of great need. It is now time to pull together and again be 'Forney Strong.'

Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 2343, Forney, Texas 75126 or dropped off during business hours on Wednesdays between 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Checks should be made payable to the Forney Food Pantry.
