COLLEGE MOUND, Texas – The College Mound Volunteer Fire Department held a benefit breakfast and open house on Saturday morning, June 21, 2014, to raise funds for one its own battling cancer.
“The effort was a success,” according to College Mound VFD Public Information Officer Terry Van Sickle. The community raised over $2,000 to assist board member Mike Cheek with medical expenses associated with his cancer treatments.
Cheek and his wife, Georgia, were surrounded by family, friends, and fellow members of the fire service community from several different Kaufman County fire departments. Cheek continues to serve as a board member despite his illness.
“The firefighters of the College Mound VFD would like to thank those who attended and supported Mike,” said Van Sickle.
