Concerned citizen sees action from Forney City Council

On April 17, Linda Gamble was in attendance at the Forney City Council meeting along with her son to thank the council members for taking a “step in the right direction" in addressing traffic and safety concerns near Claybon Elementary.

On March 19, Gamble, whose son attends Claybon Elementary, voiced her concerns to the City Council saying that often times vehicles are parked, attended and unattended, on Lakewood Trail during student drop-off and pick-up. The vehicles parked there created an area of poor visibility for drivers and school buses entering and exiting the school and Lakewood Drive from FM 741. Because of the placement of Claybon Elementary, most students walking to school must cross Lakewood Trail in this poor visibility area, often competing with buses and speeding cars.

The Forney City Council Members voted unanimously to amend a section of the “Traffic Parking Restriction” ordinance to prohibit parking along Lakewood Trail that would help address the traffic concerns. The Council hopes by installing the "no parking" signs in this area that school bus drivers will be able to safely maneuver and blind spots will be eliminated.

Council Member Mary Penn applauded Gamble saying, “I appreciate Mrs. Gambles persistency coming up here to start the action.” Gamble responded saying, “I appreciate you as a council and the mayor for listening to my concerns for our kids, for our neighborhoods, and the safety of everyone. Thank you.”

The "no parking" will be effective Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
