FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney took matters into their own hands after recent complaints about large trenches forming in two driveway approaches on Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 in the business corridor.

The trenches in question were forming in the driveway approaches on FM 548 at the Walmart entrance near the Murphy pumping station and directly across the street as you enter the Shafer Plaza at Mustang Creek retail center.

“If you cut it too short, you’re going to fall into the ditch,” Forney City Council member Scott Regan stated at last week’s city council meeting. “It’s dangerous. It truly is.”

The responsibility would have fell on either the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which manages FM 548, or the private property owners, stated Public Works Director Chris Metz at the council meeting.

Metz said, following the council meeting, his office had received numerous calls regarding the trenches which seemingly continued to grow larger and larger.

“Rather than wait and contact TxDOT or the property owners, our crews went out and just filled them in,” Metz told inForney.com earlier today.
