Forney, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation has selected a construction contractor to install the traffic signal at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 and Ridgecrest Road, according to Forney's Assistant City Manager Gina Nash.

Construction on the signal is expected to begin around April 21, 2014, and will take about a month to complete. Not only is a traffic signal being installed at the intersection, but the speed limit was also reduced on FM 548 from the northern city limits near the Animal Medical Center of Forney to Lonesome Dove Drive, which is just south of the Ridgecrest Road and FM 548 intersection, to 50 miles per hour.

TxDOT has also begun the signal study at the intersection of FM 741/College Street and Chestnut Street which was requested by Nash last month. TxDOT has placed pneumatic road tubes and traffic counting devices near the intersection which will be used to determine the feasibility of a traffic signal. A study was also requested near the Forney Community Park but has not yet begun.

Another major concern drivers have is the traffic signal on FM 548 near Walmart and Walgreens. North and south bound traffic on FM 548 does not have dedicated turn lanes or signals. Nash said options are being considered at this intersection by TxDOT which could include re-striping the road for dedicated turn lanes and changing traffic signals to include left turn green arrows.
