WILLS POINT, Texas — A Child Protective Services caseworker and two foster children were killed in a head-on collision east of Wills Point, Texas, on Tuesday night, according to officials.

The crash occurred just after 7 p.m. on State Highway 19, just south of U.S. Highway 80, and in between the small Van Zandt County cities of Fruitvale and Edgewood — approximately eight miles east of Wills Point.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 19-year-old Jessie Michael Brown, of Fruitvale, began passing vehicles in a non-passing zone when he collided head-on with another truck. Brown and a 16-year-old male passenger in his vehicle were taken to a Tyler-area hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the other truck, identified by police as 61-year-old Connie Wells of Wills Point, and two teen passengers, identified by police as 14-year-old Adam Thomas Tuma and 11-year-old Elijah William Gabriel Tuma, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Wells was a caseworker for the Child Protective Services (CPS), CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales told WFAA. Elijah and Adam, along with their 12-year-old sister, Issiebella, who was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital in critical condition, were foster children.

A preliminary DPS crash report indicates all victims were wearing seatbelts.
