CRANDALL, Texas — The Crandall City Council confirmed the appointment of Interim Chief Billy Kilgore to serve as the chief of police and authorized the purchase of an additional patrol vehicle at their January 4, 2016, meeting.
Kilgore, who has been with the Crandall Police Department since December 2014, was appointed interim chief after then-Chief Dean Winters announced his retirement in July 2015.
Following Winters resignation, the city staff and council created a profile for the would-be candidate of police chief, advertised the position, and began accepting resumes. Approximately 30 to 40 applicants applied for the position, according to Crandall City Manager Scott Wall.
A committee, which included local citizens, business leaders, and Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes, reviewed the applicants and four finalists were selected to be interviewed by the Crandall City Council.
Wall appointed Kilgore following the process and the city council confirmed the appointment at their January 4, 2016, meeting.
“Kilgore has done a great job in the interim,” stated City Manager Wall. “The other officers were very supportive.”
Kilgore has been in law enforcement since 1998.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve my community as the chief of police, working with and for the citizens” Kilgore told inForney.com. “I’ve had a warm welcome.”
The city council also approved the purchase of another patrol vehicle to be utilized by the department’s current staff.
