DALLAS, Texas β At 3:53 p.m. today, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex reached 100-degrees for the first time this year at the official Dallas-Fort Worth site, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas.
The last 100-degree day was measured on September 10, 2014. Last year, the first 100-degree day was recorded on July 13, 2014, and there were 15 days with high temperatures of 100-degrees or higher, the NWS stated.
βDFW averages 18 100-degree days a year,β stated the NWS. βThe average first 100-degree day at the Dallas-Fort Worth site is June 30, 2015.β
The Dallas-Fort Worth site has reached 100-degrees as early as March 9 which was recorded in 1911. βThe latest first occurrence of 100-degrees in a year is August 23rd, in 1989,β the NWS stated.
There have been as many as 71 100-degree days in a year which was recorded in 2011. The greatest number of consecutive 100-degree days is 42 which occurred between June 23, 1980, through August 3, 1980.
The average last 100-degree date is August 26th. It has reached temperatures of 100-degrees as late as October 3rd, in 1951.
There have been two years when the official Dallas-Fort Worth site did not reach 100-degrees which was in 1906 and 1973.
Records for the official Dallas-Fort Worth site began on September 1, 1898, and, since then, there have only been four months that have never reached 100-degrees; November, December, January, and February.
