FORNEY, Texas — Approximately 100,000 lights are on display at a home in the Devonshire neighborhood and area residents are invited to Santa’s last visit before Christmas.
The display, originally named the Windmill Farms Christmas House, has since moved to the Devonshire neighborhood with the family’s move where the seven-year tradition continues — now named the Devonshire Christmas House.
Most people spend a weekend or less preparing their homes and yards for the upcoming Christmas season with lights and displays. The Devonshire Christmas House display, however, is a five-week endeavor, according to homeowner Marci Shuey.
Shuey says it’s the visitors’ smiles and happiness that inspire the family’s display each year.
“We do this because we love to see all the happiness it brings to all the people that come to see it,” she says. “We have had many people tell us what coming to our house means to them and that has touched our hearts and made us shed tears of happiness.”
Santa and Friends will be available on Friday, December 23, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Free hot chocolate, cookies, and candy bags are typically available while supplies last.
Free candy canes, which are hung on a lighted Christmas tree display, are also available every day of the week. Shuey says approximately 4,000 candy canes are handed out each year.
If you are unable to visit Santa this Friday, Jessica Pebworth, Shuey’s daughter, says the Christmas lights will continue for the remainder of the year until 11 p.m. each night.
Shuey says her family was originally inspired to start the display because Christmas is their favorite holiday and driving around looking at Christmas lights brought joy to their family. Now the Shuey family is doing their part to spread Christmas joy to the Forney community.
“We also have enjoyed seeing the same kids come year after year that have literally grown up before our eyes,” she said.
The Devonshire Christmas House is located at 1049 Knoxbridge Road. For more information and up-to-date notifications, visit their Facebook Group, here.
