FORNEY, Texas — The driver of a sedan fled the scene of a crash on Sunday night after striking a utility pole and snapping it in half.
The crash was reported just before 10:30 p.m. in the 9600 block of Old Nacogdoches Trail, just south of the city limits of Forney.
The sedan was traveling southbound on Old Nacogdoches Trail when it veered off the roadway, struck the utility pole, and stopped halfway in the bar ditch, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper speaking to inForney.com.
The driver fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived, the trooper said.
The utility pole was snapped approximately three feet up from the ground. The top of the pole, still hanging from the utility lines, came to a rest in an upright position on the ground.
As of 11:30 p.m., a Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative crew is on scene.
The new pole will likely have to be set overnight and will take several hours, according to emergency personnel.
No outages were reported at the time of the crash however, its unknown if power will be temporarily suspended while crews work to set a new utility pole.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
