CRANDALL, Texas — The Kaufman County community and emergency services from numerous north Texas agencies will converge on Kaufman County in the coming days to honor Lewisville Fire Department firefighter/paramedic Landun Charles, who is an area resident, following his unexpected death last week.
CRANDALL, Texas — The Kaufman County community and emergency services from numerous north Texas agencies will converge on Kaufman County in the coming days to honor Lewisville Fire Department firefighter/paramedic Landun Charles, who is an area resident, following his unexpected death last week.
According to the Lewisville Firefighters Association, Charles and his wife were getting ready for work just before dawn on December 31, 2021, when Charles collapsed and called to his wife. His wife, Lauren, who is also a nurse, immediately called 911 and began CPR.
The Crandall Fire Department and CareFlite EMS responded and transported Charles to a Kaufman hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 8:30 a.m.
"Landun was a dedicated Lewisville firefighter/paramedic and member of the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 3606 for the past two years," read a statement from the association. "On his days off, Landun served the North Texas community as a flight paramedic with CareFlight."
Before joining the Lewisville Fire Department, Charles also served as a firefighter/paramedic with the College Station Fire Department, a field training officer for the department, a paramedic instructor at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, a paramedic for College Station Medical Center, and a lead paramedic for Texas A&M EMS.
"Landun was an exceptional firefighter/paramedic for the City of Lewisville. He served as a field training officer for the department, where he continuously passed on his knowledge and mentored his brothers and sisters in Lewisville," continued the association. "Landun’s legacy will live on through the many fire department members he influenced each and every day he proudly wore the Lewisville uniform."
Charles and Lauren had been married for six years and were expecting their first child in February.

Services for Charles will be held today and tomorrow in Kaufman.
"If you notice a bunch of emergency vehicles in the area over the next few days, the City of Kaufman has the privilege of helping celebrate the life and legacy of a fallen Lewisville Firefighter who was from Kaufman County," read a statement from the City of Kaufman. "We thank you all for your patience with any traffic as his friends, family, and department honor Landun."
Charles' viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Kaufman Civic Center located at 607 East Fair Street in Kaufman. The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 2000 West Fair Street in Kaufman.
