FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department’s fire marshal is investigating a small fire at Claybon Elementary after the fire alarms sounded Sunday night.
The Forney Fire Department was dispatched to the school at 8:32 p.m. by the school’s alarm company, Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend told inForney.com. The smoke alarms activated due to a small fire on the building’s exterior wall at the back of the school.
The fire burned an unidentified object which penetrated the exterior wall and caused some internal damage to the wall, stated Townsend. The classrooms were not damaged but the school needed to be ventilated due to heavy smoke in the building.
Forney Fire Department Fire Marshal John Holcomb took samples of the burned object which will be sent to Austin, Texas, for testing as part of the investigation.
“There is nothing suspicious at this point,” stated Townsend. All fire units cleared from the school at approximately 11:28 p.m. Sunday.
Claybon Elementary is not scheduled to be in session tomorrow due to a fair day.
