KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Firefighter across Kaufman County attended the Texas A&M Municipal Fire School last week as both students and instructors.

Firefighters from the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, Kaufman Fire Department, Kemp Fire Department, Mabank Fire Department, Forney Fire Department, Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, and City of Terrell Fire Department attended the week-long school.

Of those that attended from Kaufman County, seven were instructors and 11 were students, according to Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards.

Approximately 3,000 people, including instructors, commands staff, and other guests, attended this year’s 87th TEEX Municipal Fire School which is the largest fire school in the world located at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas.

“Many new recruit firefighters attend to get the basic knowledge of firefighting and to obtain a certification,” Richards told inForney.com. “The school also offers advanced level training for veteran firefighters that are seeking higher levels of certification in firefighting, hazardous materials, EMS, rescue operations, and officer development courses.”

“Continued firefighter training is vital and necessary to stay abreast of new tactics and strategies for firefighting and hazmat responses,” stated Richards. “As the laws change the updated requirements for fire apparatus, firefighting equipment, and protective gear, it is equally important to stay current with these requirements.”

“This is all in the interest of firefighter safety and providing the best service possible to the public,” he said.
