KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, issued a Flood Warning for areas near the East Fork Trinity River in Kaufman County as heavy, continuous rains are expected through the weekend.

Rain is expected to continue into Sunday afternoon and may bring one to three inches of rain on top of 3.21 inches of rain which was already measured in the Crandall area in the past 48 hours, according to the NWS.

In addition to the rainfall, as of 8 p.m., on Friday, 33,200 cubic feet of water is being released into the East Fork Trinity River from Lake Ray Hubbard per second, according to USGS data.

At 7 p.m., on Friday, the East Fork Trinity River measured 12.27 feet high. The river is expected to crest near 19 feet by Saturday evening. Flood stage at the point f measurement is 18 feet.

The NWS is forecasting minor flooding in the area which extends through Combine. This portion of the river is expected to fall below flood stage by Sunday morning.

In the Rosser area, at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, the river measured 31.28 feet and already cresting the flood stage of 31 feet. “Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast,” stated the NWS.

The river is expected to continue to crest near 38 feet by Monday after midnight, according to the NWS, and fall below flood stage Wednesday after midnight.

At 12:14 a.m., on Friday, Dallas-Fort Worth recorded its wettest year on record with 53.56 inches of rain. At 10 p.m., the NWS reported a yearly total of 56.5 inches, nearly beating the previous 1991 record of 53.56 by three inches.
