KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Former U.S. Congressman Ralph Hall has died at the age of 95 after representing portions of north and northeast Texas in Texas' 4th District for more than three decades (1981-2015).

At the age of 91, Hall was the oldest serving member of Congress as he ended his last term in office — and became the oldest person to ever serve in the House of Representatives. Additionally, Hall was also the oldest House member to cast a vote and the oldest person elected to a set in the House of Representatives.

Hall and Michigan Congressman John Dingell were the last of two World War II veterans to serve in Congress.

Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas), who defeated Hall in his last term in 2014, released the following statement on Hall's passing:

“Today the 4th District of Texas lost a great leader, statesman and friend. From his defense of our nation during WWII through his time as our Representative in Congress, Ralph Hall lived a remarkable life dedicated selflessly to serving his fellow citizens. Congressman Hall leaves behind a timeless legacy that will forever be remembered and appreciated by generations of Texans. Michele and I are keeping Ralph’s family and loved ones in our prayers during this difficult time.”

District 5 Representative Lance Gooden says Hall "left an indelible mark on the U.S. House of Representatives."

“Ralph led a life of service to his country and was a true American hero. He was a friend and mentor, and Alexa and I are keeping the Hall family in our prayers," he said. "He will be dearly missed.”
