Several Forney area Boy Scout Troops and Packs have come together once again to open up a Christmas Tree lot at Forney's Scout Hut at 305 East Highway 80. The lot officially opened on November 23, 2012, and will be open until December 16, or until all the trees are gone.
Last year, the troops first introduced the lot and brought 146 trees to sell. Those trees quickly sold out in just 13 days. Nicole Gonyea, Fundraising and Activities Chair for Boy Scout Troop 1857 and Pack 339, said, “With last year being a huge success we are, again, going to offer only the highest quality trees that are from Washington and the mountains of North Carolina.” This year the scouts have brought in 270 trees and have plenty of sizes and styles to choose from.
The scouts are also offering fresh cut wreaths and a make-your-own wreath table where you can go and customize your own wreath with donated decorative items to spruce it up. The make your own wreaths range in price from $25 to $50 depending on the size. The scouts are also selling poinsettias for $15, holiday baked goods, hot cocoa, hot apple cider, and hot coffee. A Santa Claus that rivals NorthPark Center's Santa Claus will be at the hut every Saturday for two hours from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. for pictures and special Christmas wishes.
The trees available in the lot range from five feet to ten feet in height and between $46 and $170. There are several different types of trees available including, Fraser firs, Douglas firs, and Noble firs.
Hours:
Monday through Friday: 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Location:
305 East Highway 80
Forney, Texas 75126
Next to the Steve Silver building on HWY 80.
The groups participating in this year's tree lot are Pack 339, Pack 1857, Troop 339, Troop 1857, and Troop 1007. The tree lot serves as a fundraiser for several different troop activities, camps, equipment, community service projects, and high adventure trips. The funds last year helped the troops fund trips to Big Bend National Park, the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Black Hills National Park, Mount Magazine in Arkansas, and Troop 1857's trip to be the first American scouts to camp alongside the Canadian Scout Troop in Saskatchewan, Canada, in the Moose Mountains. On July 17, 2012, Troop 1857 presented the Forney City Council with the American Flag they flew over their camp in Canada.
