Forney Brookshire's Manager Mike Dunn presented a check for $5,163.00 to the Forney Disaster Relief Fund. The money was raised at the Forney Brookshire's as well as other local Brookshire's that sold UPCS coupons in $1 and $5 increments. Some Brookshire's customers bought a $100 worth of coupons at a time, according to Dunn. Dunn said, βWe just wanted to do something to help the community.β Brookshire's previously contributed gift cards for the Forney Tornado Relief Benefit Concert put on by inForney.com. That concert raised nearly $9,000.00 for the fund.
Pastor Griffin said that while they cannot make the tornado victims whole, they try their best to help them recover from the tornado. He acknowledged that not every homeowner or renter had insurance, and for those families the tornado was especially devastating. The Forney Disaster Relief Fund is still seeking donations and you can get more information about how to contribute by going to forney.recovers.org. Pastor Griffin explained that 15 different local churches are involved in overseeing the fund and that there are three signers for the checks that are issued.
Cooper Taylor said, βThe money that Brookshire's donated will be instrumental in allowing us to continue helping out with the tornado relief effort. The generosity of our community here in Forney has allowed us to help a great number of families with expenses that they have incurred as a result of the disaster, from rent in a temporary living situation, to helping with part of their insurance deductible. Brookshire's donation will allow us to continue doing just that. I couldn't be more grateful for their generosity.β
