FORNEY, Texas — The Forney City Council on Tuesday night approved a $2.1 million tax note to fund new fire department apparatus.
The tax note, according to the City of Forney, will not adversely affect the tax rate and will be paid for by the Debt Service Fund which currently has a balance of approximately $4 million.
The Forney Fire Department plans to purchase a 2018 100-foot aerial platform and a 2018 Rescue/Pumper with the tax note, according to Forney Fire Department Assistant Chief Phillip Pyle.
The 100-foot aerial platform will replace the department’s 1998 75-foot ladder truck. The new aerial platform truck will be stationed at the recently completed Station 2 on Reeder Lane.
The new 2018 Rescue/Pumper will be similar to the engine purchased last year by the Kaufman County Emergency Services District No. 6, according to Pyle. That engine is stationed at Station 2 and the new engine will be stationed at Central Station.
Engine 1, currently stationed at Central Station, will become a reserve apparatus following the delivery of the new engine.
It typically takes a year to build and deliver the apparatus once the bonds have sold and the designs and specs have been approved.
Last month, the Forney Fire Department was also awarded an $800,000 FEMA SAFER grant to hire an additional six firefighter/EMTs.
