FORNEY, TX – The Forney City Council is set to meet on Tuesday evening to discuss significant development plans for Forney Marketplace Lot 2A, a location poised for a new multitenant retail building. The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Annex, will feature a proposal that has already garnered the backing of the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The site, located north of U.S. Highway 80 and west of Marketplace Boulevard, is currently vacant but falls within the Forney Marketplace planned development area, a zoning designation that has been in place since 2011. The property is intended for general retail use, which includes both retail stores and restaurants.

Representatives from JM Civil Engineering will present the site plan, which outlines the construction of a 27,529-square-foot retail center. This new development is expected to enhance the local economy by providing space for multiple tenants, thereby attracting shoppers to the area. The plan includes the addition of 145 parking spaces for customers and employees, with shared parking arrangements allowed throughout the development.

Access to the new retail center will be facilitated via shared driveways connecting to Marketplace Boulevard, Trailhouse Lane, and the U.S. Highway 80 frontage road. The building's design will feature concrete and brick exteriors, aligning with the aesthetic standards of the Forney Marketplace.

The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the proposal during a meeting on January 2, 2025, and unanimously voted to recommend its approval to the city council.

As the city council weighs the developmental prospects for Lot 2A, community members are encouraged to attend the meeting and voice their opinions on the project. The outcome could significantly shape the retail landscape in Forney and bolster economic growth in the region.
