Forney City Council to Revisit Gateway Parks Plats and Discuss Rental Registration Ordinance Tonight

FORNEY — The Forney City Council will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m., and two major issues are expected to draw significant attention: the reconsideration of previously disapproved Gateway Parks subdivision plats and a discussion on the city’s rental registration and inspection ordinance.

Gateway Parks Plats Back Before Council After Developer Response

The developer for Gateway Parks will return to the council tonight after submitting a formal response to the city’s prior decision to disapprove several subdivision plats. Under Section 212.0093 of the Texas Local Government Code, applicants may respond when a plat is disapproved, triggering a mandatory follow-up vote by the governing body.

According to city records, the plats under reconsideration include:

  • Preliminary Plat – Gateway Park Phase 5B

  • Final Plat – Gateway Park Phase 5B

  • Preliminary Plat – Gateway Park Phase 8

  • Final Plat – Gateway Park Phase 8

All four plats are located northwest of FM 1641 and South Gateway Boulevard. Staff received the developer’s response letter on November 21, which starts a statutory clock: under Section 212.0095, the City Council must approve or disapprove the plats within 15 days of receiving the response. The matter will now return to council tonight for action.

Gateway Parks residents and nearby homeowners have been closely watching the development process due to ongoing concerns about infrastructure, traffic, and the overall build-out of the master-planned community.

Council to Review Rental Registration & Inspection Ordinance

The second major item on tonight’s agenda involves a discussion of Forney’s rental registration and inspection program. This ordinance—codified in Article 3.09 of the Forney Code of Ordinances—was originally adopted in 2020 and amended in March 2024.

Council Members James Traylor and Salgado requested the discussion, which will focus on how the program regulates both multifamily and single-family rental properties. The ordinance aims to ensure rental homes meet property-maintenance, health, safety, and zoning standards through registration and inspection requirements.

No action is scheduled for this item tonight, but the conversation could shape future amendments or enforcement strategies.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Forney City Hall.
