FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney has extended is mosquito spraying schedule into October due to increased precipitation and warmer weather and the City of Seagoville is conducting spraying near U.S. Highway 175 due to a positive West Nile test pool.

The City of Forney notes a recent increase in precipitation and warmer weather in its decision to extend the mosquito spraying into October. The extension will add two more spraying events than were previously scheduled.

Spraying, or fogging, for mosquitos was recently conducted in the city limits of Forney earlier this week between August 28-30. Below is the two new scheduled spraying events:

Monday, September 12, 2016 — North of U.S. Highway 80

Tuesday, September 13, 2016 — South of U.S. Highway 80

Wednesday, September 14, 2016 — Parks, off road, and creeks

Monday, October 17, 2016 — North of U.S. Highway 80

Tuesday, October 18, 2016 — South of U.S. Highway 80

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 — Parks, off road, and creeks

Spraying on these dates will be conducted between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to the City of Forney.

“The water soluble spray that the city will be using to fog for mosquitoes will not harm animals under normal conditions,” according to the City of Forney.

The city says residents should take the following precautions: bring in pet dishes or cover them; bring your pets inside for the night; cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths; do not go outside during spray time; keep windows and doors closed during spraying; and if you have health problems, such as asthma, take special precautions as directed by your doctor, if necessary.

In Seagoville, the city authorized the Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) to conduct ground spraying against mosquitos along Highway 175 service road from Briar Creek Subdivision, to Modene Street, to Lasater Road, and to include the Highland Meadows Subdivision.

“A positive mosquito trap pool for the West Nile Virus was reported by the county in the 800 block of High School Drive,” stated the City of Seagoville in a press release.

Ground spraying in the area began on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, and will continue on Thursday, September 1, 2016, and Sunday, September 4, 2016, weather permitting. Spraying will be conducted between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“City Staff will continue to monitor areas where mosquito breeding is mostly like to occur,” stated the release. “To prevent the spread of mosquitos, residents should remove all areas of standing water and report all pools that are not well maintained and abandoned homes where mosquitos are likely to breed to the Health and Code Enforcement Department.” “Everyone should continue to protect themselves against the West Nile Virus by using insect repellent containing DEET,” stated the release. “Citizens are also encouraged to remain indoors during dawn and dusk, when mosquitos are most active.”

Dallas County has reported 32 total cases of human West Nile cases, of which, 12 were West Nile fever and 20 were West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease. Kaufman County has not reported any cases.
