Forney, Texas – The Forney Fire Department, along with mutual aid from Terrell, extinguished a hay bale fire near Windmill Farms and Blackburn Elementary on Sunday night, January 5, 2014. The fire was approximately 40 feet from the intersection of Concord Drive and Rocky Falls Drive.
According to Forney Fire Department Chief Townsend, approximately 18 hay bales were at the source of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kaufman County Fire Marshal's office. The investigation may be handed over to the Forney Fire Marshal's office because of its proximity to the Forney city limits – which will be determined tomorrow.
An additional 20 hay bales were stacked close to the ones involved in the fire but the efforts of the firefighters on scene prevented the fire from spreading.
Terrell City and Volunteer Fire Departments responded with brush trucks to a mutual aid call from the Forney Fire Department. The fire began at approximately 5:30 p.m. and fire crews were clearing the scene by 6:45 p.m.
