FFD has 14 paid firefighters and 25 volunteers, but they are seeking to bring their volunteer total to 35.

Volunteers must be 19 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED. They are expected to pass a background investigation, a drug test, a physical agility test, and a medical exam. Volunteers will also need to be present for an interview board when needed. Chief Townsend says, “Volunteers generally share a common goal of wanting to help people. That's a basic part of a volunteers heart.” He continued, “The Forney Fire Department is a service organization that works 24/7 to give help to those in need. Firefighting is an exciting job, it's a special calling and an honorable position, and volunteers will be required to do the same job as our paid firefighters.”

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, submit an application at the City of Forney Utility Billing Department located on the first floor of City Hall at 101 E. Main Street downtown. If you have any questions you can contact Chief Townsend at 972-564-7360.
