On Saturday night, August 25, 2012, the Forney High School Highsteppers performed during intermission at the Mesquite Rodeo. The girls were kicking up dust to a hip hop song choreographed by Ade from So You Think You Can Dance. The highsteppers had a special teacher, Erica McNeil, from HTE Dance Academy teach them the routine. Senior Highstepper Maggie Wright said, "It was amazing to have HTE come and teach us such an awesome dance."

The performance was a fundraising opportunity for the highsteppers, they were each given 10 tickets to sell to the rodeo. The rodeo being held was the Mesquite Series Championship, the top 10 contestants from the Mesquite Pro Series were competing for the championship. Maggie Wright also said, "When we dance at the football games we have a crowd full of parents and supporters cheering us on, dancing at the rodeo was an entirely different experience for us. Performing to a group of strangers and hearing their support and cheers, what an awesome feeling!"
