Local residents adopted the Angels at the Hometown Christmas event on December 1st. There were also three large “group adoptions from NextEra, Warren Middle School, and Henderson Elementary School,” according to the Forney Lions Club. It was individuals within those three large groups that adopted the Angels. There were also a number of people who missed out on adopting an Angel but still called or came by to express their interest to the Lions Club members. The Lions Club wants to give their sincere thanks to everyone who made the Angel Tree a success once again.

A local Facebook group called the Forney Treasure Exchange donated nearly 200 toys and a dozen bicycles to the Forney Lions Club Angel Tree project. Most of the toys and bicycles went to the Angels, and the toys that were left over were donated to other local organizations who try to help those in need.
Forney Lions Club member Linda Bryant shared a heartwarming story about what happened on the Sunday evening that the donations were being collected for the Angel Tree. She and her friend were preparing to leave at the end of the event when a pick-up truck pulled up outside. A local man with his young son and daughter said that his children had some money they wanted to donate to help out. The kids were only 8 and 10 years old, but they had cut mistletoe out of their tree and sold it so they could donate money to help needy kids.
The young man had a cast on his arm and a big proud smile as he told Bryant his mistletoe story. Bryant said it brought a smile to her face and melted her heart. The dad gave her the money and the Lions Club was able to use it for extra shopping needs for the Angel Tree families. She never caught the name of the father and his two kids, but she wished to express her thanks for their act of kindness.
