FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Officer’s Association (FPOA) is ramping up its community engagement programs and has launched a new and improved Facebook Page to keep community members in the loop on upcoming events, according to association Treasurer and Forney Police Department Officer Nicole Phillips.
The association, established in 2010, is composed of Forney Police Department police officers and dispatchers, Phillips told inForney.com.
Phillips says the association aims to become more actively involved in the community with monthly engagement programs, community service events, and other charity-related events.
To help spread the word about upcoming events and to become more actively engaged with the community, the association launched a new and improved Facebook Page which is open to the public, available here.
The FPOA is currently holding a coat drive for Forney Independent School District students from now until October 8, 2016. Donations can be dropped off at the Forney Police Department’s dispatch or records lobby. Any jackets donated beyond the needs of the drive will be donated to the Kaufman County Woman’s Shelter, according to Phillips.
On October 8, 2016, the final day of the coat drive, the FPOA is holding a Carter blood drive in the Walmart parking lot from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Canned food items will also be accepted during the blood drive which will be donated to the Forney Food Pantry. Coats for the coat drive may also be dropped off during the blood drive.
In the coming months, Phillips says the association and volunteers will help demolish a detached garage structure at Bow Wood Florists on Broad Street which was damaged in the 2012 tornado. Information will be posted to the FPOA’s Facebook Page soon for those interested in volunteering.
The FPOA is also selling association shirts with all proceeds benefiting the Russ Martin Show’s Listeners Foundation which supports the families of Dallas-Fort Worth area police officers and firefighters who have died in the line of duty. Those shirts are available for purchase at upcoming FPOA events.
Fundraising events for the association will likely begin in early 2017 to further the association’s goal of supporting the community.
