FORNEY, Texas — City of Forney’s Assistant City Manager Leigh Corson has resigned her position with the city and an interim police chief was named, City Manager James Fisher confirmed to inForney.com.

Fisher says Corson submitted a resignation letter on Friday, October 28, 2016.

The Forney City Council was set to discuss the assistant city manager position during executive session tonight during their regularly scheduled city council meeting. However, no action was taken following the hour-and-a-half closed-door session.

The city is currently in the process of searching for a new police chief and public works director, according to Fisher, who said he is still considering options for a replacement for Corson.

Corson had been with the City of Forney for approximately 10 years and previously served as its Director of Administrative Services.

Fisher named Louis Allwin Barrow Jr. of Rapid City, South Dakota, as interim police chief on Tuesday night to replace retiring Police Chief Rick Barnes who served the department for 37 years.

Barrow has an extensive law enforcement background which began with approximately 20 years of service at the Beaumont Police Department. Barrow went on to serve as chief of police for the City of Kerrville and later in Waxahachie where he retired.

Following retirement, Barrow began consulting with police departments across the country on, among other things, crime reduction, counter-terrorism, and threat assessments.

Barrow then took positions as interim police chief in the cities of Navasota, White Settlement, Bee Cave, Murphy, and Huntsville.

Fisher says a permanent chief of police may be selected as early as mid-November and takeover the position as late as January 2017, depending on availability.
