The Grand Opening of The Factory Girl took place over the February 10-12, 2012 weekend. A number of happy women converged on the business to peruse all of the beautiful purses and handbags in the store at 204A E. Hwy 80 in Forney.
The store is located on the north side of the highway, between FM 548 and Pinson Road. A big Philbeck’s sign partially blocks the sight of the building for some drivers. Until it can be moved, just look for the sign and then make an immediate right into the Factory Girl parking lot. The store is owned by Debbie Silver and her adult children, Jessie and Clay Silver. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because they are all part of local business owner Steve Silver’s family. Debbie and Steve are married and have lived in Forney for over 30 years. They have raised their seven children here. Mrs. Silver said, “We love it here in Forney!”
The interior of the building is striking in the way it was designed. They utilized the spacious area by blending a Texas attitude with a little bit of Beverly Hills. Jessie and Clay Silver came up with the design concept, using grey, black, and red paints, with wood accents. They also did parents a favor by adding a comfy couch, large TV and a Play Station game console to a corner of the store, allowing the kids something to do while the adults shop. Jessie has a degree in Interior Design as well as Facility Management from Oklahoma State University. Clay has used his talents to refurbish wood furniture as well as photos, and turn them into works of art that are also for sale in the store. They are literally “one of a kind” furniture pieces and they are reasonably priced.
The Factory Girl carries a large variety of purses, handbags, messenger bags, and backpacks, as well as wallets, scarves and jewelry. They carry Big Buddha, Navoh, Nila-Anthony, Cleobella and Jesslyn Blake brands. Jessie went to Los Angeles to pick out just the right styles and brands of purses for their Forney customers, as well as their online consumers. You can find a purse to fit your style and the prices range from $10 to $400. Canvass, leather, subdued or blingy, they have something for everyone. Jessie Silver said, “We want to provide something different than Forney already has.” For those of you who don’t like being attacked by a sales person when you walk into a business, you’ll be safe at Factory Girl. Debbie Silver explained, “Come on in, there are no pressure sales, very relaxed here, though we are happy to help you if you need it!” They offered 10% discounts during the Grand Opening but insist there will be more sales and special deals regularly.
The Factory Girl is another example of the entrepreneurial spirit that is taking Forney by storm. The Silver family took a 4-year dream of owning this shop, and turned it into a reality.
