The 3rd Annual Trail of Treats event held by the City of Forney was a huge success. On Saturday, October 27, an estimated crowd of 10,000 people streamed into Forney Community Park for free Halloween treats. Once again the City Parks Department planned and delivered an evening of fun for kids and adults alike.
Thousands of children and some adults came dressed in their creative Halloween costumes, ready to say “Trick or treat” as they made their way to each of the 75 booths/candy stations near the soccer fields. Most booth sponsors came prepared with large buckets full of candy to pass out to the tiny ghosts, goblins, and super heroes that came their way. One booth station out spooked all the others when it came to decorating for Halloween—The Hole Thing Donuts won First Place in the Candy Station Decorating Contest.
Forney Community Parade brings a big crowd and tons of smiles
Costume contests were held on the Radio Disney stage for a variety of ages, from toddlers to adults. Dr. Brooks Graves from Forney Wellness Medical and Dental took home the First Place adult costume trophy for his terrific portrayal of a Ghost Buster. The Radio Disney crew gave away prizes and kept the crowd entertained with pop music hits from 6-8 p.m.
The chilly weather only helped to add to the feel of the Fall season, and it did not seem to deter the number of visitors from the family friendly event. The festivities began at 5 p.m. and candy stations passed out candy until 8 p.m., or whenever they ran out of sweets, whichever came first. At 8 p.m. the older kids and adults were given a scary treat with the showing of Poltergeist inside the Spellman Amphitheater. The movie was free, as was the entire Trail of Treats event. The movie entrance was limited to kids ages 13 and older.
Despite the high number of vehicles entering and leaving the park, the Forney Police Department did an outstanding job of directing traffic and getting people in and out safely. There were no reported problems during the five hours of Trail of Treats.
