The Forney ISD released information about an incident that occurred at Smith Elementary School on Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013. Margaret Taylor Smith Elementary is located near Mason Boulevard and FM 548. According to Larry Coker, the situation was caused by an “emergency light in the front office at the school” that had a short and began smoking.
The Forney ISD released information about an incident that occurred at Smith Elementary School on Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013. According to Larry Coker, the situation was caused by an “emergency light in the front office at the school” that had a short and began smoking.
The school evacuated the elementary school students by buses to nearby North Forney High School where they took shelter in the school gym. The electrical issue was quickly taken care of by the Forney Fire Department and they cleared the school for the students to return at approximately 9 a.m. Forney school buses transported the students back to the Smith Elementary campus.
Forney ISD relayed that “no students were in danger or harmed during this event.” Parents of Smith students expressed their gratitude to FISD for their quick actions and for keeping the children safe during the incident.
