KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Four Kaufman County-area fire departments extinguished an approximate 20-acre fire on Wednesday.
The Kaufman Fire Department, Scurry Volunteer Fire Department, Kemp Fire Department, and Mabank Fire Department responded to the scene in the 9000 block of County Road 112, Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie tells inForney.com.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office and Kaufman County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.
Howie said the fire was fast-moving with heavy fuel as it threatened three structures.
Access to the fire was restricted so firefighters were forced to use three smaller brush trucks with several firefighters on foot with brooms and blowers. Larger apparatus staged nearby to replenish water.
Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards says a neighbor was burning a brush pile when it became out of control, quickly spreading to neighboring property.
Approximately 15 firefighting personnel responded to the scene from the four departments.
