KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The intersection at Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 and Interstate 20, south of the highway, is now a four-way stop, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

The City of Mesquite, which annexed a portion of the Interstate 20 corridor into Kaufman County, requested stop signs or a signal on the south side of Interstate 20, Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Michelle Releford told inForney.com.

“TxDOT Traffic Operations analyzed the request and it did not meet the warrants for a traffic signal, but it did warrant an all -way stop,” stated Releford.

On Monday, four-way stop signs were installed on the north and south side of Interstate 20 in accordance with TxDOT’s normal installation procedures for driver expectations and consistency.

“After numerous calls from the public, the City of Mesquite asked us to reconsider the stop signs on the north side,” stated Releford. “After Transportation Operations looked at it again, the traffic movements were unique and warranted a non-standard installation. Therefore, we removed the signs on the north side Wednesday morning, April 27th.”
