NORTH TEXAS — North and Central Texas are set to experience freezing temperatures and a winter weather advisory from noon Sunday to noon Monday. The advisory predicts a mix of freezing rain and sleet, with total accumulations of up to 0.10 inch, and up to 0.50 inch of snow in some northeastern areas.
Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing across the region tonight and Sunday morning, with some western North Texas locations dipping into single digits. Wind chills at or below zero are anticipated from midnight through 10 AM Sunday in most locations along and north of I-20.
Residents are advised to protect vulnerable people, plants, and pipes from the cold, and to avoid outdoor activities.
The winter weather advisory also warns of slippery road conditions, particularly on elevated roads and bridges. Untreated surface roads may also become icy.
The advisory urges residents to slow down, use extreme caution while traveling, and wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves.
The main precipitation throughout the region will be freezing rain or sleet, or a combination of both. The greatest impacts are expected across eastern Central Texas, where freezing rain accumulations will range between 0.10" to 0.15". Residents are advised to stay home if possible due to the expected slick roads starting Sunday afternoon.
The arctic blast is expected to bring dangerously cold temperatures from tonight through Wednesday morning. Residents are urged to complete freeze preparations, including protecting exposed and vulnerable pipes by covering or wrapping them, dripping any indoor sinks, and locating the water shut-off valve. The advisory also reminds residents to protect and check on people and pets during the cold weather.
The wintry precipitation is expected to end during the Monday morning hours. Most of the region is likely to see between 0.01 to 0.10 inch of mainly freezing rain and sleet. Higher accumulations of ice in eastern Central Texas may lead to impacts on most surface streets and elevated roads/bridges.
There is also a chance for snow (up to 0.50 inch) in far northeastern counties including Paris, TX.
