On Sunday night, January 27, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 7,500 gallon tanker truck overturned on westbound US Highway 80. The 18-wheeler overturned while making the left curve just before the FM 460 on-ramp at the Knox fueling station.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and it is still unclear if the driver of the 18-wheeler sustained any injuries. The tanker only had a small leak but HAZMAT crews were called to the scene for cleanup and to pump the remaining fuel from the tanker.
HAZMAT crews are expected to finish the cleanup in 4-6 hours and morning rush hour traffic should not be affected. Forney Police, DPS officers, and the Forney Fire Department were on scene and closed both westbound lanes going into Dallas causing hours of delays.
The cause of the accident is still unknown and the agency in charge was not immediately available for comment.
